A labour union is a group of workers who have joined together for the purpose of bargaining, on behalf of all other workers, with the employer about issues such as wages, hours and working conditions. The Algoma Workforce Investment Committee (AWIC) is a community based organization funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. It consists of members who are knowledgeable about labour force development issues in the District of Algoma. The mandate of AWIC is to act as a catalyst for change in the Algoma District labour market by partnering with labour market groups in addressing training and adjustment issues.
